The game is a demonstration of Sar's Battle Engine for Ren'Py, and it's reminiscent of games like Advance Wars, with a JRPG twist to it. It was made in a bit more than a month for the NaNoRenO challenge. Countless hours of sleep were lost, and several corners were cut. I'd recommend NaNo to anyone who hasn't finished a project before: it's a great way to not get distracted by grandiose plans that inevitably fail, and it's a good indicator of how much work it actually takes to do a VN, even a small one.
I personally never dabbled in UI design, but the time constraints made it so Sar couldn't actually do it himself. It was a good thing for me, in the end, as I didn't have time for excuses, and I just go on with it.
